Chapter I. Theoretical and methodological issues related to provision of telecommunications services
I.1 New business models in the provision of mobile telecommunication services
Saturation of the mobile market, mobile phone manufacturers and deteriorating economic situation make mobile operators around the world to change market behavior in order to maintain sustainable development. For years, mobile operators worldwide have enjoyed high growth in the number of subscribers, increasing rapidly with consumption of mobile telecommunications services and has higher average revenue from subscriber. Due to the rapid development of mobile operators have become one of the most powerful telecommunications companies in the world.
In recent years, however, there is a clear trend of saturation of national markets for mobile services. In many developed countries around the world the number of users of mobile services already exceeds the population (of mobile penetration over 100%), with the result that operators are increasingly competing not in attracting new users, and in the redistribution of subscribers already use mobile services. This inevitably leads to a decrease in average prices of monthly subscriptions and traffic services, and hence reduce the average revenue from the subscriber. Deteriorating economic situation and the related decline in consumption of telecommunications services and lack of available investment capital have further negative impact on revenues from mobile operators worldwide.
In an effort to maintain high growth rate, many mobile operators review their business models, reducing the costs that are targeted to previously overlooked sources of revenue, or altering the overall profile of activity.
